What is a 3MF file?
3MF (3D Manufacturing Format) is the newer alternative to STL. One 3MF file is a ZIP archive holding the model, the unit, colours and materials, and sometimes several objects.
Slicers use 3MF as their project file. A project saved in Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer or PrusaSlicer keeps the plates and print settings, and a sliced plate (.gcode.3mf) also carries the G-code.
How to use this viewer
- Drop the file on the dark area, or press Choose file.
- Drag to rotate, scroll or pinch to zoom, right-drag or two-finger drag to pan.
- Read the size, volume and triangle count under the view. Use Wireframe to see the mesh.
Opening 3MF files on a phone
The app opens 3MF files and slicer projects on iPhone and Android. For a sliced project it shows the slicer's own time and filament numbers next to its estimate. A .gcode.3mf from Bambu opens to a print summary.
Questions
What is the difference between 3MF and STL?
STL stores only triangles with no unit. 3MF stores the mesh plus the unit, colours, materials and several objects in one file, so a model opens at the right size every time.
Can I open a Bambu Studio 3MF without Bambu Studio?
Yes. The geometry inside is standard 3MF, so the viewer shows the models. Print settings and plate layout are slicer data; the Extrude app reads the time and filament summary from them.
Why does my .gcode.3mf show no model?
A .gcode.3mf holds the sliced print, not always the mesh. Export the project or the plate as 3MF to view the model, or open it in the app to see the print summary.
Is the 3MF file uploaded?
No. It is unzipped and drawn by your browser on your device.
