PLY viewer

Drop a PLY file below to view the scan in 3D, with vertex colours when the file has them. It opens in your browser and is not uploaded. The Extrude app opens PLY on iPhone and Android and can export the mesh as STL for printing.

What is a PLY file?

PLY (Polygon File Format, also called Stanford format) is common for 3D scans and photogrammetry. It stores a mesh or a point cloud, often with a colour per vertex.

How to use this viewer

  1. Drop the file on the dark area, or press Choose file.
  2. Drag to rotate, scroll or pinch to zoom, right-drag or two-finger drag to pan.
  3. Read the size, volume and triangle count under the view. Use Wireframe to see the mesh.

Opening PLY files on a phone

The app opens PLY meshes and can export them as STL. The print check helps find holes that scans often leave.
